En-Mass Errors

Post by rovingcowboy »

here is the troubles i believe that have been messing up monkey.

1.

auto leveling / level anaylizing only does so many songs and stops. or does not even work
this is mostly on win 9x systems

2.

auto organize only does so many songs and stops.
this is thought to be cause by some memory error?

3.

auto link album art to all the songs on album puts all links to one song so that one song has up to 20 cover art images in the properties tag and the other songs on the album have none?
this is fixed?

4.

editing properties of songs only allows so many songs to be edited then tosses the alert of canavas does not allow drawing.
this is thought to be cause by some memory error?

5.

Copying songs only copies so many songs then stops
this is thought to be cause by some memory error?

6.

moving songs only moves so many then stops.
this is thought to be cause by some memory error?

7.

monkey does not save options until you close monkey and restart monkey,
this is really a safety feature

8.

the now playing window has just started with monkey 2.5 to not close upon the restoring of monkey to full screen.

this is the remains undocked or persistant child window and is being fixed

The only ones that seem to crash monkey or the computer are the Auto level one and the editing song properties ones.

All the above are dealing with mass editing of sorts.
all seem to be doing the errors at the same number of files.

All inducations of any error only send the alert in the canvas can not draw error one.

the whole of the en mass errors give every inducation of it being one error in the code affecting all the different areas but only really messing up on the text editing canavas.

is not your number 7 error really a feature of media monkey? :o

auto leveling only does so many songs and stops.
Works here (Win XP Pro, 2.6Ghz, 1GB RAM) for over 100 tracks (2.5.1.934G)
auto organize only does so many songs and stops.
Works too.
editing properties of songs only allows so many songs to be edited then tosses the alert of canavas does not allow drawing.
Works too.
Copying songs only copies so many songs then stops
Works too.
moving songs only moves so many then stops.
Works too.
monkey does not save options until you close monkey

Happens here too. That includes the search history [i.e. auto complete for a search string will work only in the following run of MM]
canvas can not draw error
Used to happen to me with a combination of applications - under Win98 (long before MM).
" Cimom "
No such process running here [and I have vague memories of it being also from the Win98 days, "common interface something"]

yep those all seem to work on my winXp also.

not sure what is going on with cowboy's?

is it only on your win 98 or win Me or is it on your Win Xp also cowboy?

okay i tried some on this winXp and it seems to do them just fine, of course i only did 35 songs. i edited them and moved them and leveled them and converted them.

nothing went wrong on this xp.

however it never went wrong on the xp for me. it only messes up on win 9x

so if it is my windows snobby computer that wont take anything but the best coding for windows 98, what does that mean when monkey 2.1 and 2.3 worked on it with little to no known trouble, and monkey 2.4 and 2.5 show all the errors i listed. and 2.5 showed a few new ones?

i also found something else that is strange.
when monkey has crashed the album art context menu, i am able to level anaylize the songs.
but when i reboot the computer and restart monkey to get the album art context menu working, i can no longer level anaylize the songs?

now i know that when ms released window Me that the updates to win95 started making win95 mess up. and when ms released windows Xp win95 was so messed up you had to change to win98 or winMe, or just get Xp.

it seems now that they are trying to get ready for windows vista that the oldest one still being used is getting messed up when it was working fine?

is this ms's own extinction plan? or is it just that developers get forgetful and stop working to make the oldest os work proper.

I like to think it is ms's extiction plan. why ? because with each update for the older os it seems to get worse and worse. but since it is messing up we only have the option to try and update it to make it work. thus causing it to get worse.

reason i am thinking that is now that it is updated again it says the directx8 info is missing? how did that happen?
:x

okay got off on a rant but it does not make sense that monkey 2.3 had no troubles like this with mass editing then 2.4 started with them and 2.5 still has them and a few more.? it appears that it has to be monkey. because the only other reason is what i said about ms's old os extiction plan.

Well, I do have those problems too and I'm using XP SP2. I'm ripping all my CDs like crazy and I keep getting those errors aparently in a random manner -sometimes volume leveling an album freezes MM, sometimes not-. Also, when freezeing I usually see two types of monkey behaviour:

1. MM is using 0% of CPU and there is/are some Decoder.exe process at 0% CPU too. MM responds to my request of closing by telling me about background processes running. Unless I kill first those Decoder.exe, MM won't exit, but it isn't frozen itself, just waiting for them to end -though the player itself keeps working fine-.

2. MM is wasting my CPU and it won't respond to me at all. I have to kill the task. 10% of times it won't be killed but it will drop to 0% CPU and become immortal -> I have to shutdown my computer, most of the time by turning off the power :( .

If I'm just listening to music, freezes are way less common than if I'm ripping CDs to MP3. It doesn't seem to be an approximate number of files to which unstability arises. Sometimes I can autoorganize hundreds of files with a good result, sometimes it freezes just updating the genre of a 10 track album.

I know this post itself may not be very useful, but to let know I have these en-mass errors too in a XP SP2 / P4 3.2GHz / 1GB RAM. I have just downloaded the debugging version to help pinpoint where the problem comes from, because I reinstalled my computer two weeks ago, and before I think I was using a non-gold 2.4 version that worked flawlessly (though it didn't have real time file monitoring and other stuff).

Thanks for the time to read this

i got the debug stuff too as it is driving me nuts.

i am using the free versions and the free one doe seem to work well on xp.

i do not rip to anything but wav files.

i will use monkey to convert from wav to ogg format and some times wma.

i have no trouble doing the ogg converstion but i have not done many of the wma's to find out yet.

the errors in editing show up on the win98 because i use it for the jukebox.
it just did the strange thing of letting me level the songs but the next time it did not let me level the songs. how ever the songs i just put in from tape through the line in. it did allow the leveling when converted to ogg. and it did allow the anaylize of the ogg file afterwards.

but when i converted a conncert from ogg to wav and added in some jokes to the conncert then converted back to ogg. the monkey would not re-anaylize it? so the level field remains blank?

i also had some one else that is not involved with monkey or even using it, look at this thread. they think there is a problem with windows causing it but they are not sure, so it might be half windows fault and half monkeys fault?

some one from ms has to read this thread and tell us the answer?

Well the only of these "bugs" i've ever come across is the settings being stored only on closing MM, and this is a very deliberate feature. It is much quicker to copy the settings into memory at the beginning and write them back at the end, than it is to keep reading and writing the file all the time. Trust me, you would complain about performance if it wrote to the file everytime you clicked on a checkbox! :)

yep i can see where number 7 error is a feature and not a bug.

but what is only making some of us get these errors is not known.

maybe one of us will get the debug list to find it.

but the canvas does not allow drawing is going to be hard to catch
as it locks up monkey and the computer so how could i generate a debug list? :o

what is in the debug or not in the debug version that is or is not in the main media monkey exe?

something strange is going on since the debug works but the main one has all the errors? the only thing that i got to show up was an error that was thought to be fixed.

the sync or the tags. all the songs that get listed in the sync node, when you select them and sink them they then reshow up in the sync node the next time they are not getting their tags sync'ed like monkey says he did.

they are the same songs. and when they pop up on the list for out of sync tags there is no highlighted fields that are marked as out of sync. but they keep popping up on the list?

still trying to get the other errors to show up but not sure if they will as the debug seems to be different then the main monkey.exe

:-?

it did it again?

i was playing the normal media monkey exe and i tried to level anaylize
a song. well a lot of songs. it was working then it go to one song and stopped.

so i though Ah ha!! the error is back so i stopped the normal media monkey exe and started the debug exe. went to the song that it stopped leveling at.

and tried to level it. the dang thing leveled again in the debug exe.

i think i figured out what is really up with this error of leveling and not leveling.

the songs are already leveled from converting them to ogg from wav.
but they were never marked in the level field in the list.

so when i try to level anaylize them it wont do it again and still does not mark them in to the field.

just what is making the debug version level anaylize them i do not know?
but it does and all the levels are equal on each of the songs that do not level in the normal media monkey exe

but it is not showing any error for the reports to pick up.

i'll keep trying to catch any of these errors but not sure if it will?

I'm not sure if that applies to your problem ...

In about 5% of the tracks I convert (always to mp3 with leveling) I get an error. In 2.4 it was just a message about a problem. In 2.5 the message has an additional note that it could be a DRM problem (though I don't see any DRM info in the track properties).

BUT - both in 2.4 & 2.5 the solution is simple - convert again. The second time works.

Again - 1st time it fails, second time it works, without exception. I have no idea why.

FINALLY  :P

I caught the canvas does not allow drawing error on the debug version.

allmost did not get it. as it almost locked the computer again.

but this one seems to be a different one /or it is the same one acting like another one.?

but the canvas does not allow drawing error this time just threw up hundreds of alerts for the one song that was playing,

the other times it was throwing up the alert for all songs in the playlists?

so i hope it is the same error just acting different ways.

but i am sending it to rusty and jiri so they can figure out how to fix the blooming thing.
