Worse is:MoDementia schreef:however when MM writes the migrated data back to the tag
Folk;Rock/Pop becomes
Folk/Rock/Pop
i.e. 3 genres instead of 2
Tango;Tango
Tango;Vals
Tango;Milonga
(that's three species of genus Tango) which MM writes back as
Tango
Tango/Vals
Tango/Milonga
Absolutely.MoDementia schreef:Hence the request for an interim solution before release here
Chris
EDIT: I might want more than one character e.g. ', ' ' & ' and ' feat. '.MoDementia schreef:Using the check boxes the field can be limited to 1 character

MoDe, to see why the original is not incorrect and your modification is not required, please review http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 815#147815MoDementia schreef:Thiswould actually need to be this considering a separator list of "," and "&" and "+"Code: Selecteer alles
Jam & Spoon[MASA], Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young[MASA], Rod Stewart, Bryan Adams & Sting, [select>]Dan Turèll + Halfdan E[<select][MASA]
And considering it took me a while to 1. establish it was incorrect ...Code: Selecteer alles
[select>]Jam & Spoon[<select][MASA], [select>]Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young[<select][MASA], Rod Stewart, Bryan Adams & Sting, [select>]Dan Turèll + Halfdan E[<select][MASA]
MASA enters onto the exception list the selected text if any, else the leftward text less any existing exceptions and terminal separators.

PLEASE no. The 3.0 ';' messup can by solved only by less character abuse, not more.MoDementia schreef:Just thought of an easier interim, interim solution.
Just in the Add/Rescan Tracks to the library routine
Convert ";" to either "|" or "," in multiple field tags before adding to the libary.
Totally untrue. MM users /do/ have ';' in these tags - these are the users suffering the messup that needs fixing.MoDementia schreef:Users of MM will have no ";" in these tags
The correct way to achieve this is for MM to preserve the user tags intact (as it did in MM 2.5) and then upon /display/ to do any multi-artist/genre presentation in accord with the separator/exception list, as proposed.MoDementia schreef:But Users migrating from other applications will not have tags misinterpreted and split.

Oops, thanks - corrected.MoDementia schreef:Should that be "I do want..." ?
Fair enough, but even for a single separator ', ' is a reasonable choice.MoDementia schreef:This was in relation to the interim solution which was just a choice of replacement for ";" not for multiple separators.
