Ahh, I didn't notice that, as DreadM's skin doesn't feature a button for it. But it's in the text menu, thx for the hint!

If you round up a few images pulled online for a few players, the difference is obvious :

Songbird, iTunes, and Foobar all look nice from the screenshots you posted. But that Zune look is positively awful.

I like the Zune design, not the colors though, as it is a very integrated design. WMP is somewhat similar to that integrated design. Besides Foobar all the others look the same as MediaMonkey to me. Foobar does look interesting, but goes against the integrated design I'd like to see (ie blurring the lines between the different window elements).

(I have some ideas to improve it drastically. I'll make a post about it later.)
Well gege beat me to it and made a post explaining exactly what I was about to suggest!
Here is the link: http://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewto ... 91#p283024
This would be a huge improvement in both looks and usability!

Yes. Exactly.

From the screenshots, the Zune ones look very nice.

But I doubt it's usable. I want "full control", and my guess is, that the Zune Software is not as usable as MediaMonkey. When listening to music, I keep MediaMonkey in Micro- or Mini-Player Mode. I use my keyboard's media keys to control winamp. Album art is displayed by CAD (Yeah, I was finally able to get it working, though not completely flawless... (In case anybody saw my earlier postings in DreadM's Vision theme Thread))

Form follows function. This is what I want. That was what I liked about WMP. It has a powerfull library. (MediaMonkey is even better, I think) And a neat and clean "Design Mode" where only the cover is displayed.

They should be able to get both.
If Mediamonkey can win both battles it surely will attract a lot of new users.
I agree with this. People shouldn't have to choose. Still, functionality with GUI limitations is better than the opposite.

As I understand it, the only way to drastically change how MM looks would be to change the whole skinning engine which has to be a pain. But, yeah, skinning should be considered a part of "functionality". I'd love to see something as versatile as foobar design wise.

A more versatile skinning method + a Mac version = MM's world domination.

And, Dreadlau, are the skinning functionalities you mention as missing why although iTunes uses an outdated gui it still looks more "polished"?
My thoughts exactly!

But if something is a pain to change now, it will only get worse as MM becomes more popular or the program becomes more complex. Changing it now, will only help MM become more popular.

All those other players have a better look or polish to the various elements inside the player. Giving a "better" unified look.

I admit, iTunes is NOT the one to look up to, but it's so simple to use that my 56 year old mother "got it" right away. She can even sync music to her iPhone 4. Give her an Android phone (or an iPod) and MM......don't think so. But this is a bit off topic......

I've said before in several posts....it would be beneficial to have TWO MediaMonkey views, toggled by a button. A) SIMPLE (iTunes'ey, for jukebox function on a widescreen LCD TV og for novices) and B) ADVANCED view with all functions (As now).

Ah, shucks.....it's NOT because she's "old", but more that she is technological inept haha. I'm 32 so it's not like I find her old at all haha.
