TV series issue

Post by Sensei Le Roof »

I just used MM (4.0.3.1476) to sync my iPod (Classic, 6th gen) for the first time. Everything went smoothly except for the "TV series" videos. For some reason, it's using the episode title as the series title, so instead of seeing the twenty-some odd series titles I should be when I select TV Shows, it's showing me a thousand or so titles with no hint of what series each one actually belongs to.

Additional: I looked at the folder structure on the iPod and found that all files, both mp3 and mp4, were located in subfolders in the Music folder (labeled F00-F49) and reduced to four-character filenames (and not the random four-letter filenames that iTunes creates). This is not the way I have it set up to sync.

Edit again? Hm? Did I stump the panel or something?

sounds like the error in mm 3 where i get same title for all mp3 files burned on a data disk, in the playlist. only one song 200 times in the playlist makes the data disk unplayable in anything but a computer with mediamonkey.
and then i still have to browse the disk to find the songs.

maybe both errors are connected some how?
:-?

Well, none of the titles are being duplicated (even among the duplicated filenames). It just overwrites the series title with the episode title.

got me? it seems strangely like what i said and like another issue i had that they fixed.

which was some of my songs were overwritten with another song but kept the same title and info of the original song,
example of it is the song would say jailhouse rock, and all the info for that song. and when played it played jailhouse rock.
but the other song would have god bless america, and all the info for that song, but when it was played it played jailhouse rock. when i checked the files in another program both were jailhouse rock, so monkey some how overwrote one with the other? but that issue has not showed up for a long time so i believe they got it fixed.

still it might be showing up in a partial manor in your issue?
:-? only changing the names this time for you.

Media Monkey does not seem to be reading the 'stik' atom, which is what tells iTunes that it's a TV Show and not a Video.

The way I fix this (iPhone 3G - can't speak for other devices); select all the video files in media monkey that are supposed to be Video and then Right Click -> Properties. Change click the check mark next to the 'type' field, and then change it from video to TV. Sync with your device and that should help.

I don't think that'll work. My iPod doesn't have trouble recognizing what should be Video and what should be TV. The problem just lies in the series title getting written with the episode title instead.

Are you sure? What you are describing sounds exactly like what happened to me when I had this problem. IDK about the iPod, but on the iPhone Video and TV shows all go in the same place, it's just that TV shows are sorted by series. When they were 'Video' in MediaMonkey, they were in separate 'folders' or 'sections' for each file name - as if the file name were the series name (which sounds to me exactly what you are describing)

If they are in the 'Video' section of MediaMonkey, they will upload as 'Video'. If they are in the 'TV' section of MediaMonkey, then they will upload as TV shows.

Selecting them and changing the type to 'TV' in MediaMonkey fixed it for me when I had this problem, and it sounds exactly like your problem. So don't dismiss a potential solution without trying it just because you don't think it sounds correct.

Well, the iPod (Classic at least, which is what I have) has separate locations for Video (though it calls it "Movies") and TV.

And again you're not listening: the problem is that it's happening to files marked as TV in MediaMonkey!

(Or, I should say "happened", since I've restricted MM to only sync audio files after discovering this problem and iTunes (reluctantly) for the videos)

And confirmed the bug is still active in 4.0.7.
