Hi there, Im doing something of a mass clean of my library with the intention of bring in selections to Rekordbox in a more coherent way than I have before.
So Im going through and adding customised genre tags via the properties tab in MM5. Sometimes this is a matter of clearing up someone elses "dirty" tagging and making it coherent with my own system.
So this one track is now:
House; Techno; House Piano
Putting it in three genres that are relevant to each other.
Updating the tags like this will then be read in Rekordbox? Like its updating the tags in the mp3 file itself and they will be reflected in any other programme??
A very dumb question but Rekordbox is not updating the new tags even though the files are in there as well. I though it would.

Yes, by default tags are being saved to both the MediaMonkey database and the files themselves.

Re: Double checking Genre tag editing for Rekordbox.
Okay, thank you.
I ask because, after doing a fairly heavy round of genre tag tidying - Im seeing tags I edited reappear in the genre nodes.
Eg Ill change a load of track
to UKG from UK Garage
and next thing you know, Im back to do some more genre tag editing and UK Garage has reappared, like several hours work has not happened.
It makes me thing Im either going mad or the process is futile or the programme can not be trusted to do what I want it to.

Where exactly did you edit (what node in MediaMonkey if in MediaMonkey) and which version of MediaMonkey (Help > About) are you using?

Im doing it here mostly.

Im using MW5 Portable

I presume the fact Im using the portable is why the UPNPA server connection to my android mwa wont work either.

And in MediaMonkey the old Genre returns? Does the file play in MediaMonkey?

Re: Double checking Genre tag editing for Rekordbox.
How do you detect that the Genre tag has been reset? Where do you see this?
There would seem to be three possibilities for what you see:
- MM5 never updated the tags. Check this MM5 setting. Do a test ... Modify some tags in MM5. Close MM5, and then look at the tag using some external tool like Microsoft File Explorer. They are updated?
- Something is resetting the tag ... maybe Rekordbox does this?
- Or Rekordbox is not detecting that the file tag has been updated ... check this setting in MM5, maybe Rekordbox only scans files with updated timestamps
