How to disable audiobook file conversion during sync from Windows MM server to Android App

Post by nonplayer »

Running MM 2024.1.0.3113 media server on Windows 11. Using Android App version 2.0.5.1248.

I use the MM app on Android to wirelessly sync audio between my PC server and my phone, and this includes audiobooks. I do not use the MM app for playing audiobooks, however, as I prefer a different app for that. The files always sync over without error, but all of my .m4b audiobook files always convert to mp3 during the sync, which I don't want.

Things I have tried so far, based on advice from searching this forum:
  • (On server) MM Tools -> Options -> Media Sharing -> double-click the server -> Auto-Conversion Tab: Enabled all audio formats, unchecked Level Volume, disabled all audio file conversions. This made no difference.
  • (On server) MM Tools -> Options -> Media Sharing -> double-click the server -> double-click the client address -> Auto-Conversion Tab: Enabled all audio formats, unchecked Level Volume, disabled all audio file conversions. This made no difference.
  • (On server) MM Tools -> Options -> Media Sharing -> double-click the server -> double-click the client address -> Auto-Conversion Tab: Un-check Customize for this Device. This made no difference.
  • (On server) MM Tools -> Options -> Media Sharing -> Remove and Recreate the server, then try above steps again as needed. This made no difference.
  • (On Android) Uninstall app, reset everything, reconnect to server, redefine sync. This made no difference.
I'm not sure what else to try. I want to sync my .m4b files to my android directly, without any conversion. What else can I check/change/disable?

Thanks!

The Media Sharing settings do not impact Sync, they impact what's available through Media Servers in MMA. For Sync you need to setup the Auto-Conversion in the Device Profile instead.

Oh man, thank you! This solved the issue for me. It was very educational, too. I've been using MM for ages, but I'm relatively new to the Android app, and for whatever reason it never even crossed my mind that devices wirelessly syncing via the app would still appear in the Devices & Services menu. Perfect. Thanks again!
