Playlist Location and Import Steps

Post by abharkl »

I am looking to move my MM5 Playlists from my Desktop to my Laptop so that I can have them when I travel vs. having to recreate them.

1. Where are the playlist files stored? I did some investigating on my own but came up empty going through my files.
2. How do I import a playlist that is mapped to the same song library cloned from one machine to another in the exact same place?

I was able to Export them via the menu option, however importing them via the library method like I did with my music did nothing. However copying the Playlist folder I made from the desktop and putting it in the same drive as the Music library allowed me to right click and play them. So good enough. They really need a better way for this simple function to work like it does for exporting and it will place them where they should be directly with your music library for the mapping to work as intended.

Playlists are stored in the database file.

Importing is done through Add/Rescan Files.

Thanks, I tried that via Add/Rescan. However they didnt show up under playlists or imported playlists. No idea where it stuffed them. My work around works and I can just re-save them on the laptop once launched from the playlist file. So it will take a few extra steps.

That likely means you didn't select the folder where the Playlists were saved in the Add/Rescan Files dialog.

For successful Playlist import the Paths on Playlists do need to point to the actual files.

Ok so two things. One I selected the wrong folder the first attempt so thats on me.

I dont recall it ever saying to scan/rescan items they have to be in the same disk as the music is. So I scanned in the playlist from a second hard drive with the music on the primary and no music was listed in any of the playlist. However if I rescan them in from the same HDD as where the music is the scan in as intended and populate with the tracks.

Is this any issue with the import of a playlist or just a step I missed?

It depends on type of Paths used on the exported Playlists. If they have absolute Paths it wouldn't matter where they're stored. However if they have relative Paths they need to be stored in the exact location from which those relative Paths start.
