Now Playing sorted with Track# but playing tracks based on # column order and not Track#

Post by kermaco »

Hi,

MediaMonkey for Windows 5.1.0.2832 Beta. In Now Playing, after I drag and drop some tracks from Music>All Tracks, Now Playing has them sorted in the top down order they were in in Music>All Tracks. The tracks will play in that sort order regardless of what column I sort Now Playing by, which ideally is Track#, but tried with other columns and get the same issue.

Also Dragging and dropping from Music>All Tracks does not work after a few times. Same issue with dragging and dropping from Windows 11 File Explorer folders.

Thanks,

Tracks not playing in Displayed order

Post by Rob_S »

Running 2830 I just noticed my tracks in Now Playing no longer follow the displayed order.

Shuffle on or off they jump from place to pace in the list???

I thought this was working fine a few days ago, playing in displayed sequence

Any ideas what might be happening here

Tried it again this morning using 2832.

It seems the problem arises after sorting by a column header. Having done this it seems to play in the order the tracks are displayed in the Main Window - in my case showing all tracks in list by album view sorted by last added.

Moving tracks about manually in Now Playing seems to sometimes restore the ability to play in displayed order

Using shuffle seems to play in shuffled order. After a few sortsd and shuffles, I was no long able to move tracks manually

Seems like same issue as being reported here https://www.mediamonkey.com/forum/viewt ... p?t=105666

It is by design. In case you use List (not Simplified list) layout, it allows you to sort and change display order, but it does not change playing order. In case you have display order changed, you cannot drag and drop, as it is not clear, what playing order should be.
To change playing order, go to Playing view ("Playing" node), resort as you wish and press Save button on the toolbar, this saves display order to playing order. Pressing Shuffle randomizes playing order and activates Shuffle mode.

I cannot find any "save order" or similar button to add to my toolbar, where do you find that? I never had any toolbar configured before, so starting from scratch here.

Also, should or could there not be a button or menu item inside the "Now Playing" to save/set the manually configured playing order?

All I can find is Save Playlist in Now Playing, and the selection of tracks I was working with is not a playlist as such.

ps I thought we just went through a grreat lengthy process to finally have the tracks to be played in the displayed order of the Now Playing list.... :)

We are talking about PLAYING tree node in List view mode where you get Save new order button on Top right just above list. Now playing (right panel) is simplified list type and do not have such function. These typo of functions are reserved when you manipulate track listings in main track browser screen.

Yes, I understood about looking at the playing node, as opposed to the "Now playing".

I just tried again, and I do not see any save button in the playing node.

Can you possibly post a screenshot of what you are seeing?

All I can find for toolbar buttons is "save playlist"

Excited New Member - Need Some Help with MediaMonkey!

Post by Jason Henry »

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to drop in and say I'm super stoked to have joined the MediaMonkey forum! I've been using MediaMonkey for Windows 5.1.0.2832 Beta, and it's been an awesome experience so far. However, I've encountered a couple of things that I could use some help with, and I thought who better to ask than the fantastic community here!

1. Now Playing Sorting Issue:
So, when I drag and drop tracks from Music > All Tracks to Now Playing, they seem to retain the order they were in originally. Even when I try to sort Now Playing by columns like Track#, it doesn't seem to affect the playback order. Has anyone else experienced this, and is there a workaround or setting I might be missing?

2. Drag and Drop Limitation:
Another thing I noticed is that after a few attempts, dragging and dropping tracks from Music > All Tracks or even from Windows 11 File Explorer folders stops working. It's a bit puzzling, and I'm wondering if anyone has run into a similar issue and found a solution.

I'm hoping to get some insights from the seasoned users here. Let me know if you've got any tips, tricks, or if I'm just missing something obvious. Looking forward to being a part of this awesome community!

Best Regards,
Jason.

Besides the annoying fact I can't find any save order button, I am still puzzled why when we worked so hard to finally get the "Now Playing" to play in the displayed orderr, it has somehow gone astray again, and we cannot manually sort or reposition by drag and drop tracks in the list to have them play in the desired order as shown????

You are constantly looking and the wrong part of toolbar It is shown on the right side (Left of Playing mode selector as seen in my video) when you change the order and when the order is by # you do not see the button (Like in your image).

re 1.: See my video Above which will show you that you need manually authorize playback order changes based on current playing sort order, otherwise sort order will be just view sort.

Re2.: I can't replicate, for me I can easily add tracks to Playing directly from File Explorer I only wonder why you do that as you can simply use MM folders browser to do same + much more.

OK, I finally got your "Save order" button to appear. However, it only appears when I sort by a column header in the main window "Playing" node.

It does not appear when I manually re-arrange the tracks to the order I would like. It also does not appear when I sort by column inside the now playing. So this still leaves me with no way to save a custom sequence which is not a column sort.

Also, as mentioned by OP, after a while drag and drop becomes disabled in the now playing.

Given that most times I use "Now playing" while displaying "All Tracks" or search results in the main window, this is not very satisfactory.

The desired interface should be that I can re-arrange songs inside "Now playing" by any available means and have them automatically play in that display order.

If that bother some people, then at least can we have a "save order" button inside "now Playing" which would become available after a column sort and/or after manually rearranging my tracks?

If this is not considered a bug, then can it be a feature request?

ps This now seems like a downgrade from the old now playing, at least as long as I used non-shuffle mode, I recall that I could randomize and rearrange to suit, and it would play in display order.
