3.0.3.1140 MM won't play any music

Post by Eric »

I'm not sure what caused the problem but now MM won't play any files (mp3, wav, etc..). If I try to play a song in the library the title goes gray and the playlist advances to the next song (repeat ad nauseum).
MM continues to function normally except it is now unable to play music.

MP3s play fine in VLC and Media Player. The MP3s exist in the location MM is trying to play from. I have tried manually adding songs and opening songs directly into MM.

I have tried fix, deleting, rescanning the library. I have tried uninstalling, deleting all reg entries/mm.db/mm.ini and reinstalling MM. I notice that when reinstalling a few settings aren't erased (temp directory and podcast subscriptions still remain) but all other setting are deleted (library, registration details, layout).

Any ideas on how to fix this? How do I totally uninstall MM?

Please help!

Thank you,

Eric

monkeys database seems to be messed up ?

the grayed out names mean's monkey lost the address for that song. or the song is not at that location monkey thinks it is.

since you already did an uninstall once and started over.
just do that again uninstall mm3, then hunt down all the mm3 files and delete them. even the hiden ones.
then run a registry cleaner to make sure the hotkeys are deleted incase one of them is being left in the registry.
then after you got your system clean reinstall mm3. and see if the database will fill up when you rescan the system for files.

let us know if that works. 8)

.. maybe the problem is, that MM3 sometimes does not install a MP3-decoder.

This was the problem for me. Please have a look wether the mp3-decoder is installed (options).

You can solve the problem, copy the mp3-decoder manually.

The problem was a lack of mp3 decoder. I installed the MAD mp3 plugin and the problem is fixed. Thanks!

I uninstalled MM3, deleted files called mediamonkey* and mm* and deleted registry entires for mediamonkey, mm.db, and mm.ini. When I reinstalled I noticed that the podcast list and playlist had not been deleted during the uninstall. MM3 is working correctly so this is not a problem but I am wondering where these hidden settings are stored.

Thanks again for the help. I was lost without being able to use the full power of the monkey!

I'm having this issue now, with the latest beta. There is an mp3 decoder present, and I've tried the MAD one to no avail. Any other suggestions?
