Quintessential Media Player is Back!

Post by dypsis »

After a long hiatus (over a year), Quintessential Media Player is back.

One of the best and sweetest sounding players with great plug-in and skin support. Also, great support at the Forum.

Latest version is Quintessential Media Player v5.0.121.

It now comes in two flavours. A Lite (without Media Library) and Full (with Media Library) version.

So, enlighten me, why should I use QMP? What has it got that MM hasn't? This is just a question, I'm not trying to rant. I'm simply curious.

You shouldn't.

In my case, Quintessential was my love at first sight.
I have never put it on the shelves, but I use it like my second hand player.
It plays almost everything (w proper plugins) and I use it sometimes for palying radio streams, testing converted tracks and CUE files and files not yet in MM's library, create playlists, convert formats, etc...

I regard it higher than that mate.

I have always loved the crisp sound of this player.

Auto prune is a great feature also. But I know MM has a similar feature.

"Crisp sound"? What does Quintessential Media Player user for its Audio Output Plugin (is it better than MM's)? I understand if you use the QMP Asio plugin with offboard resampling in a high end audio card, but that's what I do with MM anyway.

Well, I think the Input Plug-ins (decoders) have more effect on sound quality.
The default Input Plug-in for QMP is Quinnware MP3, but you can also install BASS Sound System by Un4seen Developments which is highly regarded amongst audiophiles.

The default Output Plug-in is Quinnware DirectSound.

Sorry, but its not fully right. All players sounds same in basic! Its only placebo. Yes you can install others mp3 decoders like mad,123mp3 or bass, but QMP and MM3 sounds equally(MM3 can use MAD,123mp3 and ASIO too). Here are only few differents with playback plugins, but nothing special about quality. QMP use Wave Out output in basic, MM3 use direcsound. Wave out is little bit more buggy on onboard soundcards(but yes you can use wave out in MM3 too and Direct sound in QMP too). I see only one benefit for QMP and this is Skin plugin engine. But MM3 has outstanding media library and tags edit system, QMP not. I tried many players like WMP11,Foobar,Winamp,QMP,MM3,XMplay,Vuplayer,Aimp2,Quuxplayer,Musicbee,Songbird,MusicCube and others. All sounds same in basic without external plugins. Sorry for my bad english and regards.

i didn't see any bad english ? but i don't think that other player is any better then mediamonkey and to me the sound is also the same as anyother player. monkey has the library system i want. the player is a bonus to me. so i use it too because its eaiser to load one program.
as in easier on the cpu, i think it is anyway.

but i also have different players for different things but have stopped using all but mediamonkey 8)

Had a play with QMP tried a few different ins and outs, could not get it any better than Monkee with just the WaveOut and MadIn.

I used to have a Audigy2 card, I though it was amazing. Untill I purchased a Auzentech Prelude what a difference (huge) then the other day the last piece of the kit turned up for the Prelude, a Texas Intruments OPA 637SM opamp. OMFG :o what a another huge jump that was.

Ok it don't have nice flashy bells and whistles on screen but I don't get stoned anymore so I don't need them :P
So for me Monkey is like my lovely lady, does it all, does it well, no flashy gimmicks.
