In Need To Arrange MP3s by Artist

Post by davidfvl »

Hello Guys i need some help;

First of all i have an opsetion with instrumetals, Acapellas & Sound Effers an this is my issue.

i have aprox 70,000 MP3 files and im trying to organanize my computer and as you can tell my grandchild will be abe to finish it off approching one file at the time

so i went and bought a copy of media monkey becouse all the good reviews and now im stuck

this is how i like to orginize my MP3:

Instrumentals
F:/Mi Musica/Instrumentals/Hip-Hop/"Artist Name"

but right now tracks are in

F:/Mi Musica/Instrumentals

so what i would love to do is to actually hit a key feature in the program and then MediaMonkey will read all the MP3s and create one folder for each artist and move all the artits geoup to their each folder, can this be possible and if thats the case can you tell me how to do it!!!!!! thanks you sooooo much

You have tu use the auto-organize feature of MM:

Here are a few examples from the Wiki: http://www.mediamonkey.com/wiki/index.p ... nize_Files

I highly suggest you do some tests first to avoid unwanted changes!

For example, in your case, it could be C:\Mi Musica\Instrumentals\<Genre>\<Artist>\<Album>\<Track#> - <Title>

IMPORTANT: You have to make sure that your music is properly tagged before doing this!

go to the tool bar.
and on it click the tools menu on its drop down menu click the auto organizer.

when it shows up look it over and see how to type in the local url/ pathway/ mask/ directory, that you want.

now depending on your size of memory and cpu you need to close the auto organizer and go to the playlists
node for all your songs.

select groups of songs if you have small amount of ram and slow computer. if you have a 12 core cpu that is10ghz speed
then you can select all the files at once. but unless your at a college you won't be having that big 12 core.
so select the groups it will go smoother with groups of about 300 songs. if you have 1 gb of ram.

make sure before you do anymoving with monkey that your data in the tags of the songs are correct, or you will not like the results of the moving.

after you select the song group go to the tool bar menu again and click on auto organizer it will this time show up
with the songs you selected in the two lists.

list on the right is where the songs are now. list on the left is where your going to move them too.
if you see any red color highlighting on the left side list. you must change the place your want to put the songs
by adding information in to the pathway in the top text area. every thing typed between the \ marks will be folders the last thing typed after the last \ mark is the title of the song file.

\my music\elvis\jail house rock.mp3

you can use the the tags for the list so you get the songs moved to their proper location by artist.

c:\my music\<artist>\<album>\<genere>\<title> that will make the same elvis song to be in this path

c:\my music\elvis\greatest hits\rock and roll\jail house rock.mp3

it will also do that to every song you selected no matter what the tags are. so you don't have to select songs from the same artist monkey will move them one at a time and create the needed folders.

just do not move the songs out side of mediamonkey if you use the windows explorer and drag the songs to a new folder
you will make monkey unable to find the song and he will gray out that song in the list. so only use mediamonkey to move the songs and keep them in order..

after you get use to using the auto organizer on the tool menu. you can then try and set up the one in the options.

the one in the options is an automatic one but if you don't have it set up right you will not like what it moves the songs too
and it does not give you a chance to change any location info. so use the tool menu one first to get it set up.

:D
