I'm also a DJ and have not found any others than you have indicated. I do use the mixmeister analyzer to analyze and store the BPM of each song.

I have found a winamp plugin called DanceAmp X which does what you want for winamp (i use winamp as my player as it supports video so much better that mm). I tried it with the mm player but I can't get it to work.

Yep your assumption is correct, I use the My computer node to make sure none of the files are in the MM db. I think your correct on the appearing under the location node bit, but I also think that if you move or copy files to a location not in the monitor list they will appear under location also ...
