Socket Error # 10061 Connection refused

Post by avz10 »

I have just installed the latest version and now cannot connect to the internet, with the previous version it worked well. It gives me "Couldn't show results: Socket Error # 10061 Connection refused" . I have Windows XP, Intel Celeron CPU 2.66 GHz and 511MB physical memory. I have two hard drives: 40 BG and 160GB. Just to mention that MiniLyrics does not want to open.

I did the following to try and solve my problem- see post under “Need help”?:
1. I rebooted the pc.
2. I blocked the Windows firewall
3. I deleted all the existing MMs and added the newest version.
4. I uninstalled Avast, my antivirus software.
5. I can connect to the internet, using the web nodes in MM e.g amazon, allmusic, etc and they can make contact; but when I click on the ‘Tools’ – ‘Auto-tag from web’, it gives me the error message.
6. I installed the Windows Xp sp 3 beta 1- no luck.
7. I again uninstalled all MMs on my PC. As my problem started when I used 1129, I now downloaded the debug version, this time on my C drive. Same problem. I then scanned my PC for all bugs, defragmented both drives..., same problem.
8. Just to mention again, I can make good contact with my ISP. I have broadband.

Roving cowboy suggested that I get a bug report , but I don’t know how to do that. Any help would be appreciated, as I really like MM.

Anyone else having a similar problem?

I forgot to mention. I was using Mozilla firefox for internet and thought I found the culprit when I saw there was an Ad blocker on the toolbar. I uninstalled Firefox, with no success.

Hope all the clever guys can help!!!!

I can't tell you for sure about your error, but you mentioned you uninstalled Firefox, which was unnecessary. Mediamonkey uses IE to connect to the internet, so a Firefox install should never affect MM in terms of connecting to the internet.

Do you have IE installed on your computer?

Yes, I use IE since this afternoon!

I have just been struggling for more than a week, got some responses when I posted in the need help forum, and also emailed a request to the guys that know; but struggle to get responses.

I just feel there must be something on my PC blocking the connection, and the facty that MiniLyrics does not work, is strange. MiniLyrics work with iTunes!

Is there no one that has any idea? What about the moderators? Can I email my problem somewhere?

You can e-mail it to MM as described here:

For those who have followed this thread, I stumbled by accident on the answer.
I have usually logged on and used my administrator setting. This weekend, my son set up his own user account and so did I. Suddenly MM connects to the internet, and nothing blocks it!!

so you were getting online with the admin logon? thats an risky thing to do. :o
it was to be used for fixing and control of adding software to the computers. windows says when setting up winxp that it would be best to make an user login and give it admin rights. for you.

Well it just show how ignorant one can be!

Just funny that MM was blocked when I used the administrator. At least it is solved.
