Non-U.S. Keyboards and the Web Browser [#4305]

I'm from Denmark and thus have a Danish keyboard. While checking out the Web services, I decided to login to Amazon.co.uk -- I think it's neat I can do that from MM! Alas, when inputting my email address, MM doesn't seem to recognize any of my Alt Gr keys. For those who are unfamiliar with Alt Gr, it works like the Shift key to allow input of a third character on the key. Here is a picture.

When I press Alt Gr and 2 to get the @ for email address, nothing happens. Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere or a plugin I need to install for the browser to recognize these keypresses?

Well this is just an Internet Explorer OCX window, so it might not be in MM issue.

Alt Gr works in IE 7. What do I need to do to make it work in MM?

If you can't get this to work using the Alt-Gr key, can you enter the ASCII value directly using this old Windows 'hack':
Look up the ASCII code for the character you want.
With the "NumLock" ON, press/hold the "Alt" key and type the ASCII code on the Number Keypad. The character will appear.

There is no Alt code for @ according to my character map but of course, I shouldn't have to do that. A person should not need to know all the ASCII character codes to get basic functionality out of a media application. I can't justify paying for a program that won't let me use my native keyboard. Clearly this needs to be fixed, whether by the MM team or whoever built the browser component, I don't know. It is a problem, however, and one that should not be ignored.

I can work around this by switching my keyboard to a U.S. layout temporarily but it's not ideal (and somewhat alienating). I did some testing with Winamp's Online Services window (which doesn't work either) and Winamp's browser (which does), so clearly it's a choice of what browser is being used in that module. I'd suggest changing it if it can't be fixed expeditiously.

This is also a problem in the general properties area. Most Alt Gr characters are not recognized in any of the data fields, including direct editing (F2). I cannot input @ £ $ { or } but I can input [ ] | € ~ \ and µ.

It seems odd that no one has noticed this before. I guess you don't have many Scandinavian users? I can't use a program that doesn't support my native keyboard.

Are You reffering to @ = CTRL+ALT+V?

I don't understand your question. Did you read my original post? I'm using a Danish keyboard (look at the picture).

Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AltGr_key#Danish . The AltGr key will not work in MediaMonkey with some of the keys. The ones that do not work include @, yes. To get @ on my keyboard, I have to press AltGr+2. This does nothing in MediaMonkey.

I don't know what Ctrl+Alt+V does. It did nothing here in this text box.

It seems simple enough since MediaMonkey is the only program I have used that does not support AltGr in its general functionality. I expect the browser problem is a similar, but unrelated issue. Now that I know I cannot use these keys within MediaMonkey for general use, I can't justify purchasing the program. I hope you can fix it because I think I would like to buy it.

Goto: Tools ->Options->Hotkeys, and disable everything until it works.
I had the same problem and that solved the problem.
(Swedish keyboard works the same as the Danish regarding @)

As I putted it as trick question(Edit: Reason was Above Bex workaround), and you answered my question with what I nedded to confirm. When I use Serbian key Settings I have same issues. The Combination I was referring to is due to This Article

BTW For others AltGr = RIGHT ALT if not specified on Keyboard differently

Just to say I'm hoping too for an elegant solution because the same applies in a Norwegian keyboard. In my case I noticed it when trying to get the $ sign to get the right string for auto-organizing files.

A more widespread effect of apparently the same cause is reported here:

. MM prevents the user entering á, é etc using the AltGr key
