mike H.

if your going to quote me then quote everything. as you have taken my comments and cut them to sute your trouble report.

my comments you cut are telling what happened and how i fixed it on my commputer. but the way you cut them does not show that..

i am sure the reinstall will fix it also like it did. but there is still something messing with the album art area that should not be messing with it.

but the way i did it with my album art default image changing worked also.

but i have overinstalled it on the win98 and winMe and did not get this error, i only got it on the winXp when i over installed it here.

the debug reports wont work for you jiri because monkey is already closed when the error happens it is something dealing with the album art and the closing of winXp something in the way the two interact when rebooting is making it reset the ini files, my guess is that monkey is looking for album art on start up and does not find it because the links were removed from the registry, and so it thinks that the present time of starting is the first time it was started.

and when the album art was used you then get monkey to keep the options.

but when you reboot the computer the xp clears out the registry hotkeys for the album art again and your back to square one.

but in using the cutom default no album art image. the image is always looked for by monkey on start up and the url to it is always put in the registry. and that takes place before monkey starts up the windows shell.

that does explain why takeing the custom no album art image out of the folder will make the error occure again.
and putting it back in to the folder will fix the error agian.

so that is what i am thinking that it is messing up the hotkey in the registry somehow.

the two png formats both did work as the default image but the png plus format was huge and caused the error to happen when it was seen so going for the use of the normal png format is what i think should be done.

i did not get this error until this rc2 version so it is from what every you changed in this latest round of beta versions that deals with album art and hotkeys that is the cause of it.

but like i said an media monkey debug report is not going to show you anything because the error takes place when monkey is not loaded.

Roving Cowboy,

The bug could have been triggered in various ways on different systems. That's why it was so tricky to track down.

Although it was painful, it's resulted in a variety of other fixes that will only help to improve MM's robustness.
