media player for large libraries

im looking for a media player that can handle large music libraries (like 10gb and up). any suggestions?

It's not unthinkable that when asking such a question on MediaMonkey's forums that you get such a response

But... I can assure you that handling large databases of music is one of MediaMonkey's strengths. Many of us have libraries much larger than the one you propose, and having tried various alternatives, MediaMonkey keeps proving itself.

no there is no point in going to the large portables as they are not worth the weight and cost trade off.
most of them are having some convince traded off for the large library storage.
such as the weight with the hard drives used. unless they have
been able to switch to use of newer lighter flash drives that can hold lots.

then you might be getting something but why carry that much around with you? 10 gb's is a lot of sound

the small 5 gb zen micro my sister has still is not filled up and it is not playing all the songs on it now in 8 hours of listening to it.

and the others are right if your looking for computer media player then you found what you want in media monkey.

we're just getting the bugs out of the mm 3 alpha versions now.
so it will be really good when finished.

I am guessing you want to hide the fact that you are the real idiot by calling other people idiots.

Answer to your question: There is none that can handle large librarys just like MM.

@ilikeknives14 - call people idiots will certainly not endear them to answer your question sensibly. I however can rise above it - and I have never found another manager that can handle large libraries as well as MM. Presumably you think there is something wrong with MM?

You really only have iTunes, WMP11 or MusicMatch. But MediaMonkey trumps them all. And I have honestly tried every software player available. None come close to the sheer power or capabilities of Mediamonkey. Especially when I try to load any of the other players with my media library which is easily over 75x bigger then the size you stated.

Foobar can handle pretty large libraries, however its default setup is very very simplistic and takes a lot of research and downloading plugins, with a steep learning curve on how to set it all up to your satisfaction.

Practically any player (even WMP) can handle 10GB of library, assuming it is 192 or 256kb/s MP3s or larger (it is the number of files and folders that kills them, not the size on disk .. heck in .wav that is only a dozen or so CDs).

When you get to 10k tracks or more (typically 50GB+) most players are struggling. Even MM take a while to retag that many, but it will manage them just fine.

As for portable players, I don't see a big problem with dragging an iAudio M5 (30GB) around, which with Rockbox on will handle 15k tracks or so pretty swiftly. For more portable, an iAudio 7 with 8GB of Flash will hold 400+ CDs, but you'll have to rip them in multi-track chunks because the stupid thing has a 2k file limit (and anyway gets very slow when dealing with lots of files and folders).
