Indeed, another ZDNet articly that FireFox is NOT secure, at least not much more than IE.

Sorry for those that feel insecure now.

I myself use IE, but I find this stories more hype than truth. They often make claims that they don't provide prove for. Or the seriousness can be questioned. And with the latest round of Microsoft holes one worries with IE.
In any case it's best to assume that all browsers are unsafe (Opera is safest of all) and that's up to the user to be safe (install antivirus/spyware/firewall and keep them up to date) as well as browse safely, don't download free screensavers and free porn isn't too good for your PC either.

It's "NoScript" and it blocks all javascript unless you allow the site (permenently or temporarily) - which removes this problem.

Why would you need the add-on? You can block JavaScript in the Firefox options.

I use the add-on because it's easier to allow sites, especially if you only want to allow them once.

To me results speaks louder than these write-ups that might be motivated by people in need of creating sensationalisms.
I had a list of really 'dirty' web sites that I tested against, full of Trojans, and all sorts of crap, in bucket loads.
In no way I managed to get IE getting through these sites without me ending up with crap on my machine. Firefox went through them with no sweat at all.
Also long term, having used Firefox for a long time, I have no problem with spyware or whatever. That used to be a weekly pain issue in the IE days.
Using a couple of simple rules, I do not have to use any sort of heavy duty 'guardian' software. NOD anti virus and Firefox, and I can go anywhere.
I sometimes pitty people loading up their machines with truck loads of guardian software that often is a real pain in the butt.
Clean, fast, no worries.
