Custom device images for MM4

Post by gege »

As you probably already noticed, in MM4 there's a nice device config page, which displays a device image. This image can be specific (for the iDevices, for example) or generic.

In my house there are six or seven different devices (5th gen iPod, Nokia 5310, microSD cards, USB thumb drives, wife's Xperia, ...), which I sync frequently, using MM (obviously!). As I wanted all my devices displaying the CORRECT device images, I dug the Internet searching for hi-res images and edited then all to create MM friendly transparent PNG versions.

The result is here, for your pleasure:

As I found it funny, I just searched for other well known devices and also created device images for them. Now I'm sharing all the device images I've created, so you all can benefit. If you want other well known devices added to this gallery, just let me know. I'll find a good resource image, edit it appropriately and publish here.

How to use:

1) Right click the desired image and choose "Save image as..."
2) Save the image in any location you want. If you have admin permissions, you can choose to save in the same location as the bundled images (by default, "C:\Program Files \MediaMonkey\Plugins\DeviceImages\" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\MediaMonkey\Plugins\DeviceImages\")

3) Open MM4 and plug in your device. Wait for it to appear in Media Tree
4) Click on device's node in Media Tree
5) Click on "Options" tab.
6) In "Device image" field, click on the folder icon
7) Navigate to the folder where you saved the image and select it
8 ) Back to the device config page, click on "Apply" button and you're done!

You are a prince :D If you are surfing and happen to come across any you could add the Motorola Dash and/or Amazon Kindle. No rush or anything but just a suggestion, since I have them in my arsenal. :)

alrighty...then i'll start with players you have forgotten ;)
sansa clip/clip +, sansa fuze+
creative zen x-fi2, creative zen style 300

just a suggestion: everybody could share his player(s) or images and then there could be a list sorted by brands. how about that?

I DIDN'T forget, it simply wasn't my intention to remember :)
I mean, this is not intended to be a comprehensive gallery. I just started with the devices I own and expanded the list with a few more I know are popular where I live.
From now on, devices will be added on demand. Simply because I don't know which devices you own.

Again, great idea and thank you for your time and effort to make Media Monkey ever better.

What about getting pictures of other SD cards and Micro SD? 4g, 8g, 16g, etc.

I use Photoshop, but it's possible to use others as well. The key here is the use of magic wand tool with anti-alias enabled in a hi-res image. The last step is resizing to 256px in height or width.

You can send me your images. I'll resize and post them.

Hi Gege,

This is a very good idea. My request is for Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc (Silver).
Advanced Duplicate Find & Fix Find More From Same - Custom Search. | Transfer PlayStat & Copy-Paste Tags/AlbumArt between any tracks.
Tagging Inconsistencies Do you think you have your tags in order? Think again...
Play History & Stats Node Like having your Last-FM account stored locally, but more advanced.
Case & Leading Zero Fixer Works on filenames too!
