MediaMonkey for Windows 5.0 is a major new release. This page summarizes some of the new features and changes.

• A new modern look and feel
• Auto-Tagging with audio-fingerprint-based lookup
• Casting (Chromecast) to Google cast devices
• Manage, sync, and browse online content from Cloud Services (Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive) and Spotify
• Improved search and filtering functionality
• AutoPlaylists with nested searches
• In-place playlist editing via new Playlist windows
• Improved play controls (play shuffled, shuffled by album, stop after every file)
• More advanced editing tools in the Preview window
• Browser modes and immersive Playing modes that display Artist, Album metadata and Lyrics in the Filelisting
• Pinned items (Favorites)
• Database backup and restore
• 5 more custom fields added as Custom 6-10
• Ability quickly hide/unhide the left (typically used for the Media Tree) and right (typically used for the Playing and Preview) panels

MediaMonkey

What's Different?

• MediaMonkey 5 has new Addons and Skinning engines. The new framework is more powerful and cross-platform, but it also means that Addons and Skins from MediaMonkey 4 and older will not be compatible. We expect more Skins and Addons to be developed in time.
• Winamp 'General' plugins are not compatible (input, output, DSP plugins still are).
• CD Burning is no longer supported. If needed, you can use MediaMonkey 4 for this (beside lifetime license, MediaMonkey 5.x license is also back compatible with licensing MediaMonkey 4.x).
• Virtual CD & Previews functionality is no longer supported. Virtual CD tracks are imported as standard library tracks, while Previews are imported but can no longer be created.
• The toolbar is no longer configurable.
• The default UI uses a material design theme, but if you prefer the MM4 dark theme just switch to it.
• The UI is now divided into configurable 'panels' and windows can't be moved with Drag & Drop.
• Visualizations have been moved from an independent window into the Preview window.
• The Media Tree can be disabled entirely, and breadcrumbs and 'Media Nodes' used to navigate instead.
• The Media Tree by default is only one level deep. If you prefer to navigate using the Media Tree, click the ⋮ symbol in the Media Tree, and enable 'Show all subnodes'.
• Devices (and services) are now configurable as 'Media Nodes' instead of via the menu.
• The 'View' switcher still switches between Views, where each View defines 'View Type', Columns & Sorts, and incorporated View Elements. Views are saved per Node (where node= Collection > Node, Collection > Node > Subnode , Now Playing, Playlists), so that for example, if you switch from Artists to Albums the View can change. View Type defines non-configurable elements of the View.
• The default views use more Album Art, Artist images, and dynamic content. If you prefer minimalist list views, just switch to the 'List' views which are similar to MediaMonkey 4 default settings.
• Searching the current view can be initiated just by typing a search term when the track list is in focus. Such 'contextual searches' can either 'filter matches' in the current view or 'scroll to match' the search term (in the field used as the current sort order).
